Duties & Responsibilities
As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will be the go-to person for all payroll-related matters. You will make sure the payroll process runs smoothly, accurately, and follows all government rules like PF, ESIC, PT, and Income Tax. You will also guide and support a team of payroll associates; help solve difficult payroll problems and improve the way payroll is managed. This role is perfect for someone with strong payroll experience who wants to grow as a leader and expert in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of 2 Payroll Associates, ensuring all payroll activities are performed accurately and timely.
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, including salary calculations, deductions, reimbursements, bonuses, and incentives.
- Ensure statutory compliance including accurate calculation and timely remittance of PF, ESIC, PT, and TDS along with the filing of all monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory returns.
- Monitor daily payroll operations, track progress, and provide hands-on support to associates as needed.
- Prepare, review, and submit payroll reports and statutory filings on schedule.
- Ensure strict confidentiality and data security throughout payroll operations.
- Maintain leave & attendance of client employees.
- Very good in statutory law and domain knowledge.
- Manage multiple clients’ payroll processing.
- Stay updated on changes in payroll laws, regulations, and best practices and disseminate knowledge within the team.
Requirements
Desired characteristics (Attributes & Skills)
- 4 to 6 years of progressive experience in payroll, with demonstrated expertise in payroll processing and compliance.
- Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring junior payroll staff.
- Strong knowledge of PF, ESIC, PT, and Income Tax.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel including basic functions like Sum, Average, VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, etc.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Experience with Ascent payroll software is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of Gratuity, Bonus, Leave Encashment, and other payroll components.
- Experience handling payroll for multiple clients or locations is a plus point.
Qualification required for the role
- Post Graduate degree, MBA, preferably in Commerce or a related field
