China payroll: frequently asked questions
We manage monthly Individual Income Tax (IIT) filing and withholding, and monthly social insurance and housing fund remittance, both of which are calculated using city-specific rates and caps rather than a single national rate. We also manage the annual IIT reconciliation, which affects year-end bonus tax treatment and requires careful timing.
Monthly payroll is standard across China. Payslips detail gross salary, IIT withheld, and the employee’s share of social insurance and housing fund contributions, and we produce these in a format that reconciles with each city’s tax bureau and social insurance bureau filings, which is necessary since requirements differ by location within China.

Salaries are paid in Chinese Yuan (RMB) through domestic bank transfers, and we work within China’s foreign exchange controls and local banking requirements to process net pay and statutory remittances on schedule, while your global reporting is delivered in whatever base currency you use for consolidation.
Yes. Given how much China’s social insurance and housing fund rates vary by city, consolidated reporting is particularly useful here: we standardize China payroll data alongside your other markets so you can see true cost by city and by country, rather than reconciling multiple city-level filings separately.
