What is an EOR?

An employer of record (EOR), sometimes known as a professional employer organisation (PEO) or Global Employment Outsourcing (GEO), is an organisation that can hire and pay employees on behalf of another business, nationally or internationally. They will be responsible for all HR tasks, such as immigration, payroll and employment, ensuring compliance and efficiency with no need for a local entity to be set up.

Instructing an EOR is the smart choice when it comes to hiring overseas. Employment regulations vary drastically from one country to another, so our role as the EOR service provider is to take on the burden of everything to do with officially employing someone — from tax and payroll to compliance with local and national laws.

On paper, we’ll act as the primary employer of your employee, but you’ll still be completely in charge of their day-to-day deliverables. In short, they’ll act like any other employee — just with fewer complexities for you to worry about!

What does a global employer of record do?

Global expansion is a goal for many organisations that want to tap into new markets to unlock new opportunities. However, operating in a new country or territory can throw up lots of new challenges, some of which can limit operational success, with knowledge on hiring and managing payroll needed, before operations can begin.

This is where a global employer of record service can be a highly advantageous solution. A global employer of record is a third party organisation contracted to manage employee services on behalf of the organisation operating in a foreign country. This includes dealing with payroll, any taxes, employee benefits, insurance and healthcare coverage, as well as any visa or sponsorship requirements for that particular territory. Using a global employer of record means organisations can focus on their expansion, leaving managing payroll and HR services to a local expert.

Whitepaper

Everything you need to know about an EOR.

There have been a lot of changes to the workplace and worldwide labour markets over the past two years, with the pandemic ramping up remote working at an unprecedented speed.

Gone are the days of spending five days a week in the office. If the pandemic has taught us anything it’s that employees across many different industries can work just as effectively from home as they can in the typical office environment.

Frequently asked questions.

Instead of having to learn local customs, spend time adhering to local laws and then paying your employees, a global EOR can take over all of those time-consuming jobs and leave you to focus on your expansion and operations.

Yes. Any type of employee, from full-time to contractor, from C-suite to general, can be employed with support from a global employer of record.

An EOR is a great investment at any stage of expansion. From providing knowledge to supporting roll-outs, hiring and eventually employing and payroll, you can tap into local expertise at any point in your plans to operate abroad.

With an EOR, businesses can start hiring and managing payroll immediately, as the EOR acts as the registered local entity. With PEO, a local entity will need to be registered before any services can be delivered.

No. An EOR will undertake the management of employee services in a new territory, but not the recruitment of local teams. However, we can support when it comes to connecting with local recruiters and hiring practices in local markets.

What our clients have to say.

  • Vice President of HR – Client based in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

We have been very, very pleased with the quality of service you and the team have provided, I hope we can partner even more in the future.

  • Supervisor – Client based in Ft Worth, Texas, USA

TopSource Worldwide has a detailed and methodical onboarding process that made it easy for us to get set up and running with our UK employee. They were able to take the worry out of trying to comply with all local laws and regulations. Because they have this knowledge we do not have to research on our own and hope we are in compliance. This has saved us hours of time and gives both the company and employees a sense of security.

  • Annette van Duijnhoven – Nutreco

With TopSource we were able to have employees hired or maintained in Nutreco without having to establish an entity in these countries for only 1-2 employees. I think most countries are covered by TopSource, so they can help us with almost all cases. Good advice on conditions and direct contact with employees. Invoicing done directly to the company. An easy process compared to hiring employees by ourselves.
